Handicapping means that you will, by educated and informed guesses, ascertain the probabilities one horse has over the others of winning any given race. We have created a system that calculates based on historical data that you will input. Sometimes, however, there are unique factors that a computerized system may not take into account and human experience can be superior.

Gambling is still a gamble. But by using our system, your chances are greatly improved over some traditional methods such as numerology, or picking the "Experts" selections, tossing a coin, or gut feelings, etc.

The results of our system are NOT random; the precision of your data input IS VITAL. Statistical data of a horses racing history as well as recent and current racing conditions are taken into account, compared and analyzed, assigned numeric and logical values, and weighed against each other.

SIDE NOTE: Our workups are for Thoroughbred races only and will not really be of much value for Quarterhorse races as the criteria are not equally applicable..

Here are some [of the numerous] determining factors:

Previous tracks: Distance and surface; sprints and races on turf tend to render horses less capable of winning the next races. Of course there are many variables that can change this.

Horse Ages: Younger horses(2 year-olds) tend to be somewhat less predictable than the 3 and 4 year olds.

Current track and conditions: Turf or wet tracks make for less consistency, and thus, less predictability. We recommend not betting on these races. If it has been raining it might be safer to wait and bet on another day or another race.

Historical Performance: A horse will have distinct consistencies in its past performance, so taking this into consideration along with statistical tendencies is very important. Jockey and trainer success rates are important too and included in the calculations.

The Beyer Speed Figure is also a vital factor in our computations. The terminology used by Equibase is a little different, but still applicable.

For foreign races that do not use the Beyer Speed figure you can put in any number for every horse, just use the same number for all horses and this will give a consistent calculation for the horses.

EASY PRELIMINARY ELIMINATIONS OF LONGSHOT CHOICES:

Your horse must be a Thoroughbred.

At least 8 horses must be in the race you will bet on.

Race MUST be between 6 and 7 furlongs ONLY in order to qualify for a Longshot bet..

Must be a Claiming or Allowance race.

Horse must be between 2 and 4 years old.

Some definitions:

Post Position: Gate starting is the order that each horse is listed on the DRF.

Experts Selection: If the horse is an Expert's Selection, put “Y”, otherwise leave the default “N”.

Last Finish: Here put the horse's last finish position 1 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, etc.

Last Race Lengths From Winner:Here, use decimals for fractional numbers; i.e. For 1⁄2 put .5, 1⁄4 put .25, etc. (Also means lengths-won-by if the horse came in first).

For "no"(nose) put .1(point one), for "nk"(neck) put .2(point two).If horse did not finish put -1.

Date of last win: Put the date of the horse's most recent win, or if no wins put 2015-01-01. A date is required in this field.

Last race long or short: >8 Furlongs = 1Mile+ =(Long) Put L if "Long" race, S if <8 Furlongs "Short" race

Eques Surge was created for making profitable bets so the prime bet to win on is the Longshot. This type should be considered first since the payouts are much higher than the regular bets…….greater risk but much greater rewards.

This system was designed primarily for making a single bet per race, on the most profitable picks. This makes the overall control of your money and information much easier to handle too.

For regular(straight), 2-Horse, or Exotic bets etc. we run a separate set of calculations based on some different criteria and give you a list of the top horses. You can if you desire, look at the systems results and make additional bets based on the product of the various calculations. This is your option. Take note though that as you use the system beyond its primary use of choosing one Longshot winner you are getting away from the more accurate and higher-paying First-Pick computations and increase your overall risk of loss. Please use discretion in this respect.

INPUTTING THE DATA

The easiest way to input new data(races and past performances) is to duplicate a record with the “bee” icon and then just change the appropriate data. Since the horse name list is very long then it is best to duplicate a record with a horse name low in the alphabet since the list loads much much faster with these. You need to be sure to change the race number and also take care to change the horse name in past performances plus the starting position and, of course any other data that is different from the record you just duplicated.

Note: The past performances screen can be a little slow to respond sometimes when you go to edit a record because it is loading the table of some 25,000 horses so please be patient because it will respond fairly quickly.

If you are not accustomed to reading the Daily Racing Form® it can be frustrating at first to input data in our system. We give instructions next to the input field telling you where to find the data. It is strongly recommended that you go through the DRF PAST PERFORMANCE TUTORIAL and READING PAST PERFORMANCES links.

Once you input some horse Past Performance racing histories it will become very easy to find the information on the racing programs and you will get fast with a little practice. If you already know how to read the DRF you should have no trouble finding the information to input into our system.

Our system allows you to input the data for more than one race. Our system will output the top horses for regular bets based on total points. If you are looking for Exacta’s etc. you may not get the data you want for a single race.

Other users input data so the race you are considering may already be in the system. You probably want to check the accuracy of the data other users have added for the races you are interested in.

You can input all of your basic race data for multiple races by going to the link “ENTER ESSENTIAL RACE DATA” and this will not affect the processing because when you “ENTER HORSES' RACING HISTORY FOR CURRENT RACE” then only that data will be processed.

In other words, the easiest method for inputting multiple races is to go ahead and put in all the races one after another.

The fastest way to begin putting in races is to go ahead and put in ALL of the horses into the Horse table and ALL of the racetracks into the Racetrack table. When you go to input these start with a search of the partial name of the horse or the track to see if they are already in the database.

Our database already contains over a thousand Racetracks(Race Courses) from all over the world so it is likely your tracks are already in the system.

It is very possible your horses will also already be in the database since we have 30,000+ horses in the system.

It is very easy to input data from the Daily Racing Form and get the print-outs / read-outs of winners without risking money. This is recommended so that you can work with our system until you feel confident in the results. By inputting data you will have begun building up your own database of betting, winning and losing, and horse and track information for future use and reference.

When you are ready to put the system to use you should decide to set aside a specific amount of money for your bet and follow the basic rules.

Bet only 8%(suggested) per race of what you have allocated for your total betting monies.

For example; if you can begin with $200 bet $16 on your first race and then adjust each subsequent bet according to your gains and losses using the 8% (8% is only a suggestion). The purpose of this percentage is so that if you lose 10 in a row before making your first win you will have a cushion to continue betting. A losing streak of more than ten is VERY uncommon. This explanation of possibility should not discourage you as you will soon realize that the wins will make your original betting allocation grow enormously.

As your original allocation grows and shrinks your bets should be adjusted accordingly. An average losing streak is usually about 4 to 5 races only. When you lose, don't get discouraged; after all it IS gambling. Just watch your allocated bet money and as the saying goes,

"Never bet more than you can afford to lose".

Winnings vary greatly. On some races you will win only 2 times your investment. On Longshot bets you can win as much as 50 times your investment. The odds determine the payouts. These winnings, averaged with the losses could make your average profit about 400%. Keep in mind that your profits will continually grow over time because your average investment is growing. Do the rest of the math and you will be astounded.

Q & A

Q: This system seems to take a lot of time to do just one race. Is it really worth it”

Answer: Doing the workup on paper used to take me about 2 to 3 hours on 1 race and I frankly didn't have the spare time to do it so I set up my system on a Microsoft Access database. Now with the system computerized and with some practice it took me maybe half an hour or less to do a workup. Another advantage is that horse and track information I entered did not have to be re-entered. The horse ages do change so obviously you need to keep an eye on that. In 2019 I converted the Access database to SQL since using Access required that the user own and know how to use Access. With SQL I was able to move my program online and there is no limitation to the number of users. Also, SQL allows much more versatility and is more stable than Access.

Q: Can I place my bets online?

Answer: Not in every state. As of the date of this writing in 2019 the following states DO NOT allow online betting:

Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas. Utah, and Washington D.C. .

You can, however, if you are near a racetrack and want to bet on an out-of-state race then many tracks will allow you to place bets on tracks in other locations and even have live video feeds of other races.

Winning is quite thrilling and watching the races too; the whole experience is a lot of fun, so, above all, HAVE FUN.
